M A T E R I A L I S T I S T
 :
O
ne who is excessively concerned with material possessions that prompt feelings of tenderness, sadness, or nostalgia.

Some of us can identify with the title of Sentimental Materialist.
Treasuring all those years worth of birthday cards;
the refrigerator full of kids' art projects and report cards;
ticket stubs from that first concert or movie together;
old journals; grandma’s tapestries.

We make attachments to our belongings because of what or who they represent to us.

Spread throughout our shelves, in scrapbooks or boxes,
storing up materials can be a way to relive the tenderness and nostalgia of a time or person.
But when these items begin to accumulate or get tucked away
they can lose the original intention of honoring these parts and people of our lives.
Contemplative (re)Purposing gives new life to the belongings
we find ourselves in sentimentally complex relationship with and can help to assist in the emotional processing of those emotional connections with our possessions.
