Due to the extremely delicate nature of final pieces, I am Currently only accepting commissions from my local & surrounding area of Indianapolis On limited and non-pressing occasions there maybe chance to work with those from the closer states and regions. Times and finances will have to be negotiated. Please inquire further about interest on commission page no whatever where you may be located.
All materials given will be subjected to COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION! This is a method of keepsake has the essence of impermanence at its core. A Consent to Transform document will be required for all owner(s) of materials to read and sign, displaying that all parties understand the process of destruction and rebirth which is to take place. Options for documenting items subjected to the process can be made possible.
Art is a Process of Intuition There is a certain amount of vision and creative control you may hope to have within your piece as a commissioner, but part of C(r)P's nature as a therapeutic practice is the art of letting go. This type of commission calls for a willingness to stay open. As an artist, I work in the abstract and my most authentic work is done when detached for outcome and tapping into the creative spirit where order and structure are of a different realm. If you have a particular style and/or colors that significantly compels you, I am willing to stay open to this also, but ultimately is art form is committed to forgoing demands so to produce something directed by a larger artistic impulse. Take comfort, I hold your wishes and your belonging with great honor and will work diligently to create a piece for you that you are pleased with. Until you feel peace, I will continue working on your piece!
Contemplative (re)Purposing takes Time and (emotional) Energy(from your side and mine) This is a therapeutic process as well as an art form. You may not choose to include your written contemplation or scripted emotional processing about your belongings into the actual construction of your piece, but I will ask you to spend time to write and/or talk through your relationship to your belongings. Topics like but not exclusive to: Who or what time in your life do your items remind you of and why are those times and persons of significance? Why are you willing to subject your things to (re)creation? Feeling ready to process your belonging could take time. Articulating your hopes, dreams, prayers, and fears can take time! Being willing to give up your materials could take time. If you are ready, I am here to work through making that time and space for you and your belongings. The process of transformation will take time and energy out of me as well. I want to treat each piece with the time, attention, and intention it asks for and deserves. Deadlines are possible but a loose time frame will often be the required. Please tell me what kind of time frame you are hoping to work with in the commission section.
Contemplative (re)Purposing is Not Therapy This style of art is considered a therapeutic intervention and is not to be confused with mental health counseling. Being time-limited and goal oriented it is not to be used as a replacement for ongoing clinical treatment. As a therapist resident working towards licensure, I have the ability to work with people in the context of mental health counseling but when doing the work of C(r)P I am in the role of an artist, not therapist. If you are seeking longer term or in-depth treatment, or we find through our consultations that you could benefit from a mental health counselor, I will gladly help refer you out as I myself would not be able to work with you in both roles. Unfortunately, the same applies to already existing patients. I will happily continue to be your therapist but I am unable to be your artist.
Contemplative (re)Purposing is Not Art Therapy Please note, that while I am an artist and therapist resident, I am not anart therapistand do not work with others in the context of art therapy. My work within both disciplines impact and interact with one another but are not considered within the profession, regulations, or requirements of art therapy.
Contemplative (re)Purposing does Not Advocate for Sustaining Unhealthy Attachments with Belongings Being a therapeutic intervention, C(r)P works to process your connections with belongings as well as find creative ways to honor these mementos. Working to understand your attachments to materials has the possibility of revealing unhelpful relationships between you and your things. If you are seeking greater help with sorting, organizing, and letting-go of material processions, especially materials inherited from a loved one, you may wish to consider another therapeutic intervention that can better assist you in combating attachment challenges. Neither intervention is equipped to properly assist with persons struggling with severe and/or diagnosed hoarding tendencies.
Financing Considering that the quantity, substance, and complexity of items per project will vary, pricing for commission will vary, too. Please let me know the price range you are hoping to work with, the items you are hoping to work with, and their approximate amount, and during our in-person consultations I will conduct a price estimate which seems fair and feasible for the value of the work. Pricing can likely be anywhere from $50-$1000+
Donations Any old art supplies that you donate to go towards (re)purposing projects or financial support you are hoping to give to larger community projects are appreciated more than you can understand. With not being a non-profit, the chance that your generosity being rewarded by the government through tax deduction does not seem likely at this time.
Inclusiveness On this site you will note the use of occasional spiritual language. I recognize these terminology can hold power for people, be it positive or negative. Please understand, the words choices are meant to be expressed with the most open, honoring, and inclusive of intentions. All religions, faith traditions, personal or global philosophies, non-religious or anti-religious paradigms, I believe, speak to our shared human thoughts, hopes, sorrows, joy, inquisition, a myriad of internal experiences, and deep emotions. Whatever terms you choose to talk about the in depth human/existential experience, please translate my wording as such.
